AWESOME!
LOVE IT! Our daughter is 4 1/2 yrs old and has her first loose tooth. This book is great for her age and offers a gentle, kind message on what to expect, ie what to do with a loose tooth, tooth fairy, etc. We've been reading it every day so far. This book is also beyond expectation in that it has lots of great illustrations of animals. Highly recommend it!

Really cute!
Gave this book to our son when he lost his first tooth. I love the friendships depicted in all these bear books and the easy flow of the wording. Very sweet books!

We Love Bear
We love Bear and his friends. We have several of the books in the series. The illustrations and story have such quaint charm and bright character. It is a simple, short book (5 minute read or less). I bought it mostly because my daughter has her first wiggly tooth. She was a little apprehensive about it at first, so I thought the book would be a fun way to help her realize it's nothing to be scared of. It worked! Now she talks about her wiggly tooth and it falling out with anticipation, not fear. It is not a detailed, in-depth story by any means, but worked well for us as a way to continue the conversation about losing baby teeth and what to expect. It is a lovely picture book that we spend just as much time admiring the illustrations as reading the story.

Cute Book, Good, Non Threatening Explanations, Would Have Preferred No Fairy
I purchased this book because I was looking for a way to help my son understand what was happening with his recent loose teeth. He has a laundry list of conditions that includes two diagnoses that are known to cause cognitive impairment, and he is also on the Autism Spectrum, which can sometimes cause that as well. It clearly distressed him, especially when they fell out, and I knew he was going to need more support then just me talking about it. What I loved about this book from the bits in the preview was that it talked about how the loose tooth felt in his mouth, what he was worried about, and nobody was menacing bear when they were talking about how ways that the tooth could potentially be gotten out quicker. I would have preferred a book with humans in it so that it would be easier for him to relate the experiences to himself, however all of the ones I previewed had more dramatic and scary looking caricatures of people and their schemes for tooth extraction. For a kiddo who's already had a history of being scared of medical providers and people in general, as my son does, I found those to be less desirable then cute Mr. Bear here. What I wish I had seen in a review or in a preview was the part about the fairy taking his tooth and leaving berries, which is bear's correlate to the tooth fairy. When I was a young child, finding out that there really was no Santa, no tooth fairy, and no Easter Bunny had me personally feeling lied to. I felt like it was only pretend if everybody knew up front that the pretending was going on. So I made a decision as a parent that I would always be upfront with my kiddos, whatever their cognitive abilities might be. I give gifts for lost teeth, but it is known up front I do it, and for my daughter at least, it is a game to see if I can get the tooth out of her room and the gift in without getting caught. But she can understand all of that. I'm honestly not sure how to help my son understand that just because a fairy appears in a book doesn't make it real. Because he is very literal and he does not yet pretend, and he is non verbal so I'm not sure what goes on with him and imagination. He mostly talks about concrete things on his speech device. So for me, I'm not too sure what to do with this book. I think most of it describes things well and talks about concerns he would have, and while I don't want to censor it, I'm honestly tempted for him to tape the pages with the fairy together and do some "editing". My apologies, Karma and Jane if I do :) I haven't decided. But just a heads up for anybody else that would rather not have that in there for whatever reason. I think it's a super cute book, and if it were for my daughter, we'd just have a conversation about it being pretend and why some people do that as a tradition. But for my son, this is an area where it is harder for me to gauge what he understands, and that is why I would have preferred if the fairy weren't in here.

We Love Bear!!!!
I was looking for new books for my son when I came across this book for preorder. My 5 yr old looked over my shoulder and exclaimed "When can we get it mom?!?!" Notice he didn't ask IF we could get it! My son knows I love Bear just as much as he does so it was never a question of "CAN we get it", he knew better. The newest Bear book is once again the perfect combination of great writing and awesome illustrations. Karma Wilson always has a wonderful melody and tempo to her writing with stories that are perfect for young children just grasping their social and emotional development. My children love that they can sometimes predict what will happen next in the story and sometimes they dance on the end of their seat waiting to see what will happen on the next page. The illustrations by Jane Chapman bring the story to life and give us characters that we love to look at over and over again. My son describes it best... "I just want to love and snuggle Bear all day long". This particular story was special to my youngest as he has not yet lost a tooth but is eagerly waiting. I thought the subject was handled beautifully since the wonder and fear quickly turned into "what can we do" and excitement. If Jane Chapman and Karma Wilson continue to work together, I will continue to purchase these books. They just make you feel happy!

Great little story that gets youngsters used to the idea that they will loose their teeth at some stage but loosing them isn't scary.

A very cute book. Sometimes the main part of the picture is somewhat hidden in the crease, but the story is sweet and good for reading to a group.
