Once more, Now Sounds raids the Capitol Records vaults in Hollywood for late-60s Psychedelic Pop/Soft Pop obscurities and unearths a treasure trove of first-time-on-CD gems. Productions by the likes of Micahel Lloyd collide with arrangements by Mort Garson and Gene Page and compositions by Harry Nillson and Kim Fowley, and performances by many legendary Wrecking Crew members, proving why Capitol Records was the undisputed leader of pop during this pivotal era. All original Capitol singles, circa 1966 - 1969, are sourced from original matser tapes. Some are presented here in stereo for the first time ever! Most tracks are first time only on CD! The 24-page, full-colour booklet also includes rare, unpublished photos and extensive track-by-track liner notes that feature the participation of many original band members, arrangers, and producers. Mastered by Alan Brownstein from the original matser tapes! Produced and compiled by Steve Stanley.

Too polished for the psychedelic genre
All the songs are from late 60's and rely on vocal harmony. Some are quite memorable others not so much. The title states psych pop sounds, that would lead me to a band like country joe and the fish or paul revere and the raiders.. This cd is more in the pop direction like Gary Puckett and the union gap. Good stuff but not what I was searching for.

Here's the tracklist. Sorry the other reviewer doesn't want to share the titles.
I was frustrated by an earlier reviewer's refusal to provide the track list despite multiple requests. Part of what people do here, just to be good guys, is to share stuff like that, so the rest of us can try to decide if we want to buy it. More psych than pop, much better than Volume 1
I wrote quite a negative review of Volume 1, which to me contained more pop than psych. Being a bit of a completist though, I thought I'd pick up Volume 2 anyway when I saw it going cheap. To my surprise, I found it far more psychedelic than Volume 1, and not just crammed with weak pop tunes. I'd recommend this to psych pop fans, quite a few of these tracks I'd never heard before and the sound quality is great.

Usually the first volume in any series is better than those that follow
Usually the first volume in any series is better than those that follow. I liked volume 2 better than volume 1 in this series. The songs are still sixties pop, but they don't seem as pretentious and have a more authentic sound. Both of these CDs are worth having for anyone who loves the sixties. Capitol Records sure did a great job during this era or rock and roll.

'Book A Trip 2: More Psych Pop Sounds Of Capitol Records' (Now Sounds) Various Artists
About as good as the first disc 'Book A Trip - The Psych Pop Sounds' (see my review) that came out before this. Tracks from these obscure bands that make this a worthy collection include the song by The Staccatos (who sort of reminds me of the Cowsills), the Bay Area's psych outfit that released just one vinyl 45 the Tombstones, The Knack (not the late '70's band known for "My Sharona") with their snappy "Pretty Daisy", the off-the-radar Raw Edge, the Toronto-based - AM sunshine pop band Sugar Shoppe, the Pink Cloud, the New Kick and the inspiring "Good To Be Around" by the Laughing Wind. Overall, a nice pick.

Rare chance to hear forgotten pop gems
This is a long overdue compilation of forgotten, and in some cases, ignored tracks from the '60s. Steve Stanley the producer has painstakingly trawled the vaults of Capitol Records for long neglected master tapes and remastered them using today's technology. For me the stand out track is Robbi Curtice's "When Diana Paints the Picture", a rare and beautiful song, that was only ever previously released in USA. There are excellent, informative notes on all the tracks and the artists, and the whole production is a delight.
